Newbery Award Discussion

Discuss the Newbery winner and honor book(s). Winners will be announced at the ALA Mid-Winter Virtual Conference. 

We will begin the discussion as one group to talk about the Newbery winner. After discussing the winner, participants will be placed into breakout rooms to discuss an honor book. 

This year's Newbery Award winner is: When You Trap a Tiger, written by Tae Keller

Breakout group 1 will discuss the following honor books:
All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys’ Soccer Team, written by Christina Soontornvat
AND
BOX: Henry Brown Mails Himself to Freedom, written by Carole Boston Weatherford, illustrated by Michele Wood

Breakout group 2 will discuss the following honor book:
Fighting Words, written by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

Breakout group 3 will discuss the following honor book:
We Dream of Space, written by Erin Entrada Kelly, illustrated by Erin Entrada Kelly and Celia Krampien

Breakout group 4 will discuss the following honor book:
A Wish in the Dark, written by Christina Soontornvat

Participants in this discussion will earn 2 CE credits. A link to join the discussion will be sent to registrants the morning of the event. This program will not be recorded.
